are not moldy but when they get wet from wiping our skin they smell icky. What can I put in the washer besides soap and softener? We use both. ThanksWhat kind of home remedy can I use to make our bath towels smell good again? I wash them and dry them so they?
Stop using fabric softener. It makes the towels smell yummy right out of the wash, but it reduces their absorption and seems to encourage that funky odor when wet.
Instead, wash the towels in hot water with soap or detergent, and add about 1/4 cup plain white vinegar to the rinse cycle (2 tbsp vinegar if a front-loading machine). The vinegar smell will be gone by the time the towels come out of the dryer, and after a few washes, your towels should smell, well, just like a towel should.
ETA: Yeah, apple cider vinegar will work. But if you decide to keep using vinegar, get the white-- it's a lot cheaper. :)What kind of home remedy can I use to make our bath towels smell good again? I wash them and dry them so they?
Let them sit and soak in the washer with color safe bleach. My mother's towels stink too...and she did this and it worked. Every time you wash them put a little color safe bleach in there...if they are all white then just regular bleach. I use Gain Island Fresh detergent and Snuggle Exilerations softener...always smells good.
How old are your towels?? if more than 2 years old they need to be replaced...JC Penney's has a great home sale on right now...
Once you throw those old towels out and get the new ones..If they smell weird after you have washed and dried them i would call the WATER company and have them check your water...
Or use the perfume free washing machine liquid soap and the Downy lavender Vanilla scented dryer sheets... Good luck
Wash them in hot water with amonia and baking soda.. Its the only thing that has worked for mine and i've tried everything...Make sure they never sit in the washing machine while wet cause that is what causes it..
I had this same issue with some towels I had, and I just ended up replacing them. I think that over time they just don't get as clean, but you might want to try washing them in hot water.
For us it was just a matter of changing detergent. We used Costco's ';kirkland'; brand regular detergent, and the towels always smelled moldy. We switched to the unscented version, and the smell went away.
as soon as the load is done , put them in the dryer right then and use a dryer sheet.
try adding vinger to the wash as well as soon as the load is done stick it in the dryer and make sure it trys completely even it's a tiny bit damp it will cause it to smell... i've been using gain detergent with fleecy softner and double the bounce dryer sheets
Next time you buy towels, buy ones that are made of bamboo. they are super soft, absorb a lot and are guaranteed never to mold or mildew. They are also very stain resistant. I got a set as a wedding gift, and they are WONDERFUL. They stand up to my abuse too!
