why are my bath towels so rough, is it age, washing or the way I dry them? any tips??How do I make my bath towels soft, and keep them soft .?
You can have 2 types of towel
1) Nice fluffy one's because of Lenor etc... but don't dry you so well
2) Rough towels that have had no Lenor but do dry you.
My Nana pointed out that towels should just be washed with soap powder and dried. How do I make my bath towels soft, and keep them soft .?
Hi!
As well as using fabric conditioner at the end of the washing cycle, include some with the actual wash cycle.
Also, when you take them out of the washer give them a good shake before you dry them.
Voila! Lovely soft towels.
Like you say, towels can lose some of their fluffiness with age.
Hope this helps!!
Best of luck!
air drying towels or clothes can make them rough and stiff. use fabric softener. i recommend Downy Simple Pleasures in a variety of fragrances.
I have to agree with the others. Fabric softener in the washing machine and tumble drying. I can't stand crispy towels! Fabric softener helps them to smell nicer for longer too. Mmmm... fresh, clean, soft towel warm from the airing cupboard after a hot bath.......
dry them in a dryer with softener
I find the best method is to give them to my wife. They come back all fluffy and soft...result
I air dry my towels till they are almost dry, then give them 10-20 minutes in the tumble dryer. I don't like using the tumbler too much as it eats up energy and I try to be green, and never dry anything from wet. Use fabric conditioner, but not every wash because it does reduce absorbency - just use it every 3 or 4 washes
After washing them, use liquid fabric softner. Some people do say it makes them less absorbant, however, I use it and have never noticed them being less absorbant.
I use plenty of softner and you have to put them in the tumble dryer............works for me!!!!!!!!
Fabric softener sheets and the fluid.
Buy a good quality softener, slightly more expensive but worth it.
I use fabric condtioner , people say not to use it on towels but I haven't found any difference except in how soft they feel.
or you can try ironing them but to me that is a waste of energy, Mine and the electricity. Tumble drying also helps to soften them. but again it is a use of more electricity
But think!! rough towels are good exfoliators!!!
hope this helps
are your towels colour fast ,if so wash in the colour fast cotton wash if not use a slightly cooler wash, wash with whatever powder you prefer. use only a little fabric conditioner as to much takes away the natural absorbency and dry in your tumble dryer. never dry in sunlight as it makes towels go hard.
The reason that fabrics loose their softness is due to a build up of soap and detergent residue. To combat this, simply use vinegar. Use it instead of fabric softener. It also helps to reduce static cling and remove odors
put 2 to 3 tennis balls in the dryer when you dry them. They come out all soft and fluffy. I saw it on the Martha Stewart Show. It actually worked I was shocked.
