Why do we wash BATH towels? Aren't we clean when we use them? If not then what was the purpose of the bath?

Hanging up to dry, bath towels can accumulate bacteria that is best removed by washing. Washing makes them smell nice, too.Why do we wash BATH towels? Aren't we clean when we use them? If not then what was the purpose of the bath?
Because the body is always sloughing off skin cells even after we wash. Those skin cells build up on towels and there are specific kinds of bacteria and organisms that feed on those skin cells. (That's why bed bugs are so hard to get rid of, they thrive on dead skin cells we leave behind in our beds).

Also the moisture in the towel can attract mold spores from the air and if your towel doesn't dry out completely every day, they develop mold.

There is also usually some dirt and residual perspiration left on the towel from missed spots on the body, particularly the back which is very hard to clean thoroughly but is VERY easy to dry by running the towel back and forth using both hands. Why do we wash BATH towels? Unless you positively sterilize yourself when you bathe (which is actually very bad for you, you need a certain amount of bacteria to help keep you immune to infections) you are not clean when you use bath towels. So you must clean them. Additionally, hanging the towel to dry in a moist environment in the bathroom means they are not likely to fully dry. And where there's a moist towel, bacteria and mildew will grow. Keep a towel in the bathroom for one week without washing it. Then pour hydrogen peroxide on it, it will bubble up fiercly- showing that the bath towel is NOT clean.

Toss that towel in the hamper!
Even though you are cleaner when you exit the shower or bath then you were before hand, you still have bacteria and oil on your skin that transfers to the towel. With the added moisture and skin cells it provides a near perfect environment for the growth of mold and other nasty stuff.

You do not have to wash your towels after every bath or shower, once a week should do it.

I wash my towels in hot water with detergent and chlorine bleach to remove the nasty stuff from them regardless of color. I skip the softener since it causes the towels to be less adsorbent.
lol....I know what you mean, but, when you dry off skin flakes, dirt %26amp; soap residues, and hairs get on the towel. Eventually it will make it kinda funky, so you need to wash it to get those things off the towel and make it fresh again.
You don't get all the dirt and grime when you bathe and it comes off on the towels. Also, there can be bacteria from wiping the towels all over your body, plus whatever grows in a warm, moist environment. Don't you notice how towels take on a smell after a while?
I always wash bath towels after I have used them. Haven't you noticed all of the dead skin floating around in the bath?? As you step out, some of it, inevitably sticks to you and is rubbed off on the towels!!
Bath Towels can get disgusting.

I mean, reusing them for a day or two, won't hurt... but using them for a week or two... just give it a try, I'm sure you'll enjoy the smell. ;)
I wash my towels every coupla days............

They start smelling musty like loadsa people have said..........

Plus when you actually dry yourself bits of skin will undoubtably stick to the towel..........not nice!
You got a point.

I rarely wash them (once or twice a year)

I admire some hotels who usually put notes on shower towels in bathrooms for this purpose. It is a way save our planet.
they collect skin flakes from our bodies , our bodies shed even if we don't notice , I rather have a clean towel everyday.
that's so true! but i think its just because once its wet it smeellllsssss so we just wash it. which is stupid cuz it kills the planet.
wet = mildew and no, you are not clean enough. ever smell a towel after a few days of use?
It would begin to smell, from keep getting wet.

But you make an interesting point.
I wash mine every few weeks to remove buildup of grime.
haven't you noticed that after a while your bath towel starts to get musty smelling?
OK you got me there!
