The first two answerers got it. For the wringing part (after soaping and after rinsing), fold it in half, roll it up loosely in the tub and stomp all over it. That will keep you from spraining your wrists.What's an effective way to handwash a big bath towel?
put it in the bathtub and cover with water and add detergent and then get in and stomp all over it with your bare feet

As said ..... bath tub, stomp and rinse. But you will need to rinse more than once!
