I just need to know what I am doing wrong. Is there something that I can add that will help with the scent? I have already tried that Febreeze for the laundry, and it doesn't seem to get rid of the odor. Thanks For Your Help!Everytime that I wash a load of bath towels and washcloths, they always end up having a musty smell. HELP!!!!
I used to have that problem and here is how I fixed it..... I buy Tide Simple pleasures the pink one... (it is like rose and something else scented), and I buy the liquid fabric softener and dryer sheets in the same brand and same scent.... I originally used it for my sheets and towels, but it smells so great and everything is so soft, that I now use it on my clothes too!!!!! Wash with that adding 2 capfuls of soap instead of one, and wash them in hot water.... I would recommend cutting down the load size as to not overcrowd the towels, and when they are done washing, dry in the dryer completely... make sure they are dry before putting them away..... And also every once in a while, use clorox 2 for colored towles and regular clorox for the white towels... to help kill bacteria that can cause the odors!!! Try this, and you'll see why I switched....... But use the pink one... it might seem strong scented just smelling in the bottle, but wait until your laundry is done..... OMG it is great!!!! The other ones I have tried and they don't do a very good job... And the Vanilla and Lavender (purple bottle) make your laundry smell moldy... no joke!!!! I hope this helps you!!!!! Good Luck. And wash your towels by themselves, don't mix with other laundry....Everytime that I wash a load of bath towels and washcloths, they always end up having a musty smell. HELP!!!!
I have the same problem, Someone told me to wash the clothes with Tide then wash them with a very small amount of vinegar. Did not work now my towels smell like vinegar.
I am a firm believer in a little bleach. It kills the germs that cause mold and mildew. I agree that you might need to run your washer through a cycle with hot water and a some bleach to clean out any mold or mildew that has built up around the rims or tub.
Try using washing powder
Is your water city or rural?
Put some Downy liquid in with the wash powder.
Na old washer ? Apple cider vinger ..then use lemon bleach with towels lots of it to kill mold ..
Do you have a front loader? If so, you may be washing too many towels and wash cloths. Don't put in as many and see if this will help. Also, make sure to dry them right away.
you could have a problem with your washer is it spinning in the rinse cycle or do you have to do it twice. or to much soap.
Towels are tricky, because in their use they are wet and dry repeatedly, which breeds bacteria and smells.
In order to avoid stinky (musty) towels, I wash in warm to hot water and make sure that the machine is not overloaded (if it's too full it won't wash well). I found that using a liquid detergent (like Tide) as well as a couple of scoops of Oxyclean gets the towels nice and clean. (You can also use some bleach instead of Oxy if the towels are white.)
Then you have to make sure to dry them right away, if they stay wet: here comes some stink. If possible, put them in the dryer on a pretty warm temperature. Don't fold them or put them away unless they are completely dry.
Happy Laundering!
try baking soda
I used to have that problem and my mom told me to put in a 1/2 cup of baking powder in when i add the laundry detergent and add fabric softner during the rinse cycle it really works.
I add a bit of ';Oxy Clean'; stain remover to my wash loads...You can find it in the detergeant sections of most groceries/supercenters. I always throw in a ';Bounce'; fabric sheet in the dryer...never a musty smell!
They're picking up the smell from your washer. Run an empty load (don't put any clothes in it) using hot water and a couple of cups of bleach. That should kill the mold build-up in your washer.
If it's really bad you may need to do this twice.
