How many years should I hang on to bath towels?

I've had most of my towels for about 5 years. They don't smell as fresh as they used to, no matter how much I wash them.

How long is too long to keep a bath towel? How many years should I hang on to bath towels?
try putting a bit of bleach in the water, see if that helps, sometimes when towels are allowed to sit around and get mildewy the smell never comes out..

I have seen towels last 30 years.. it just depends on the quality of the material it is made out ofHow many years should I hang on to bath towels?
I had mine for 6 years and I buy good thick Egyptian towels and I threw them out and bought new ones again. They start to absorb less water off your body.
Depends on the quality of the towel, as for scent I would look at your laundry soap/ softener rather than the towel unless they had actually gotten mouldy at some point. We got towels kicking around, a little ratty looking but 20 years old with no different smell than the new ones. Try colour safe bleach.
If they still look good then keep them. As far as the smell put 1 cup of white vinegar in the rinse water to get rid of the smell. Run the rinse cycle one more time and add your fabric softener if you use fabric softener.

i keep them for a long time and then when department stores have them on sale I use my old ones as rags!
they can last as long as you think theyre good enough. try washing them with some vinegar. it works wonders
